In addition to designing many houses and inns, William Ralph Emerson helped to design some of the first buildings at the National Zoo in Washington, DC. It’s not the wealth, weapons, or pride of a nation.

I hadn’t read any articles or notices of upcoming celebrations to honor the veterans, and as a military veteran of another country, I wanted to learn and understand more. November 11, 1918, is regarded as the day that fighting ended between Germany and the allied nations of World War I. As a proud Vet and citizen, I salute you!

I hope that today will be a wakeup call for all of us to remember what makes this the great democracy that the world envies.
