I had written several blogs regarding the high cost of ethic lapses in consulting, in particular in June of last year Consulting Ethics Challenges , which addressed the very public nature of PwC Australia’s ethics problems. The high costs of those ethics problems are now very visible and quite frankly ugly.

That said, just because something is legal doesn’t mean it is moral, ethical, or advised. Over the past few years, I think McKinsey has lost its ethical and moral compass as a firm. I do think the vast majority of those who work at McKinsey have strong ethics. What I think McKinsey did was worse. That is the problem.

Lack of consulting ethics once again. In my blog entitled, Reputational Damage (February 1, 2023), I highlighted two things that could have been done, and still needs to be done, to likely prevent these, and other grievous and damaging situations. Adopt and adhere to both a Code of Ethics and a Code of Conduct.

The cost ethics lapses is now clear. For the past 35 years, as a Certified Management Consultant®, I have adhered to IMCUSA's enforceable Code of Ethics.
