Consulting firms are very good at selling themselves to potential recruits. But, like any sales pitch, there’s a degree of exaggeration behind the polished smiles. Most consulting firms are up-front about the fact that the consulting lifestyle can be tough, and few recruits go in expecting a nine-to-five job.

In 1999, rock-and-roll legend Rikk promoted me within six months from sales associate and drum department head at Sam Ash Music to Operations Manager, where I not only led a warehouse crew, but I became the regional trainer on an Oracle-based POS system at the age of 23. What a funny place to find wisdom — a hotel lobby shop!

The Boston Consulting Group. EY Consulting. The office at NYC has grown quite a bit the past ~7 years.
