Doctors perform tests, analyze the results, interpret the results to make a diagnosis, plan a course of treatment, and then work with the patient to make this treatment plan a reality. Invest in developing your emotional intelligence.

Robots should be able to perform these kinds of tasks efficiently at scale with few mistakes. The best one can hope for in a complex situation is to understand some of the dynamics, monitor the situation closely, and adjust course as new information surfaces. Disagreement about what needs to be done is rare. Answers don’t exist.

This isn’t surprising given that this is the primary focus of educational institutions, training programs, and leadership development courses. The obvious focus here: efficiency at scale. In an organization focused on scalable efficiency, the focus of learning is on sharing explicit knowledge.

Decreased productivity: Bad teamwork can lead to decreased productivity as team members may struggle to work together efficiently. Of course, this is ignorance and not a viable excuse. Research shows that executive leadership has the lowest level of emotional intelligence and people skills of all layers of management.
