When I first started recruiting for consulting jobs, an interviewer at Bain shared a story (arguably a legend at this point) about how Bain (or it might have been McKinsey) was asked to advise Motorola on whether or not they should enter the mobile phone market. This would be a textbook strategy created by McKinsey, Bain or BCG.

Minto is an ex McKinsey & Company consultant and wrote this during her early days there. Today, McKinsey and EY use this book extensively, and it is also one of the top reads at Booz Allen Hamilton. Since this book came out, McKinsey has made it standard training material.

It was a business case task where you get a bunch of documents and papers with a lot of relevant & irrelevant info. I also showed them my analytical thinking by creating frameworks based on certain "case studies" given in the interview process (think--asynchronous case interviews ).

The other is for the structure of the case (this is the issue tree and this is the set of notes you would show the interviewer). You will notice in most cases the process is quite easy.
