Nothing tells you more about a firm than meeting the people who work there – the notion of a ‘company culture’ may sound like a cliché at first, but it genuinely provides insight. Spend some time perfecting your CV and cover letter. Try to find other aspiring consultants in your area and set up meetings with them.

Before my interviews with both firms, I actually got rejected from non- management consulting jobs (even though they were both less prestigious firms and would have been backups for me). Basically, to get interviews, network, network and then network some more. Let me explain how this applies to case interviews.

It’s great CV and interview fodder. For most students, this will probably be the main reason why they join a student consultancy – it looks great on the CV and gives you something to talk about in interviews. This was definitely the case for me. Clearly there is much more to student consulting than meets the eye.
