Welcome…to the final day, the crowning achievement, of our 2013 8-day East Coast (we counted our final travel day too). From those who signed up on the first day to our late-comers, everyone showed up ready to party (as much as you can on a Sunday when you’re prepping for consulting interviews).

If you don’t live in the Bay Area, don’t whine – our attendees in NY flew in from Atlanta, Ohio, and London and took the train at 6AM from other spots to meet us. On the first day of orientation, we were told that we should start applying yesterday, especially if we wanted to get into consulting – but not to put all our eggs in one basket because it was so competitive – and so we all polished our resumes and contrived our cover letters and sent them out left and right to anyone with an inbox.

Before my interviews with both firms, I actually got rejected from non- management consulting jobs (even though they were both less prestigious firms and would have been backups for me). Basically, to get interviews, network, network and then network some more. Let me explain how this applies to case interviews.

It’s great CV and interview fodder. For most students, this will probably be the main reason why they join a student consultancy – it looks great on the CV and gives you something to talk about in interviews. Clearly there is much more to student consulting than meets the eye. This was definitely the case for me.

That being said, the travel model will vary depending on the needs of the client. We also have periodic training which will cover more specific topics like business unit strategy, and client interviewing techniques. Tom: I assume that Marakon uses the case interview as part of its recruitment process?
