According to Smith, the lack of experience, expertise, speed, and legitimacy of students in contrast to professional consultants means that both clients and students get little out of it and waste valuable time and energy that could be better spent elsewhere. This reminds me of my own story applying to every investment bank on Wall Street and not even getting an interview with most and not getting past Round 1 with anybody. You put in a lot of time, energy, and money (travel to interviews, taking people out to lunch, buying a new suit, prep materials, etc.) The learning curve is expensive.
