Even if you later decide against a career in consulting, the experience will still provide you with transferable skills that are attractive to any employer, so it is a good experience to have in the bank. From this, you can identify any potential problems and use the experience to find a way to manage or solve these problems.

Before my interviews with both firms, I actually got rejected from non- management consulting jobs (even though they were both less prestigious firms and would have been backups for me). You put in a lot of time, energy, and money (travel to interviews, taking people out to lunch, buying a new suit, prep materials, etc.)
