I have been training for over seventeen years now. It turns out that preparing for case interviews is fairly similar to preparing for Taekwon-Do Competitions. While preparing, I must perfect my techniques, adjust my weight for my sparring category, strengthen my hands and feet for board breaking, and fundraise for travel costs.

As if traveling across the ocean on the plane wasn’t enough, we felt it necessary to use as many forms of transportation as necessary…so we took a train up to Durham University. Many questions were asked about resumes, cover letters and the importance of inserting a cover letter with their applications.

Tom: What kind of training and mentoring can graduates expect to receive at LEK? This involves a high caliber professional development program which includes formal technical training as well as on-the-job learning experiences. The life of a management consultant is certainly a busy one and often involves travel.

Generally speaking, a lawyer’s workload is more narrow and less diverse than a consultant’s; add that in with little to no travel and minimal exposure to different industries, and many lawyers are looking for a change. We train people in how to think and it’s never quite as simple as saying we’re doing a performance improvement project, not training. I was in touch with a government contact yesterday offering them some training in strategic problem solving. Much of our work in this area in the last few years has been training and mentoring.

We provide 80 hours of formal training within the first 12 months. Tom: I assume that Marakon uses the case interview as part of its recruitment process?
