I wanted to send you a quick note on how I have been able to secure a McKinsey interview , despite not knowing anyone in consultancy. I have consequently been invited for an interview. The objective of this email was to simply highlight that there are several alternatives to securing an interview.

It helped me a lot in getting ready for case interviews , and now I have an offer from BCG [ Eastern Europe ] and A.T. To transition to another region starting from BCG Eastern Europe, you will have to physically travel to the country you want to work in, to network and interview. Kearney [ Western Europe ].

On the first day of orientation, we were told that we should start applying yesterday, especially if we wanted to get into consulting – but not to put all our eggs in one basket because it was so competitive – and so we all polished our resumes and contrived our cover letters and sent them out left and right to anyone with an inbox.

Before my interviews with both firms, I actually got rejected from non- management consulting jobs (even though they were both less prestigious firms and would have been backups for me). Basically, to get interviews, network, network and then network some more. a) You applied to a bunch of MBA programs and didn't get in. Here's why.

But for me, I had a full day of interviews and the PST (first and final rounds combined). I had 12 situations prepared and in each interview did one in full and used elements of others.
