Remember your new year’s resolutions? Are you still doing them?
Before You Set New Goals, Think About What You’re Going to Stop Doing
You likely have new goals for the new year, but are you doing them? If not, you likely fell into the trap of not taking old activities out of your schedule to make room for the new. It’s the equivalent of going into debt to cover additional purchases. You can take the pinch for a little while, but soon you’re stretched too thin.
Instead, identify and remove work from your schedule to make room for the new. First, question all of your work commitments. Reevaluate what you’re doing and how you’re doing it, focusing your time on your most important work. Then, reassess your work style. Reduce meetings and interruptions, and rethink how much time is spent on e-mail and devices. Finally, strategically add in the activities that you want in your life.
By eliminating some of the activities in your calendar that are no longer the best use of your time, you can make space on your calendar and intentionally add in what’s important to you.
