Mind is flat

Fascinating podcast from Second City Works (Kelly Leonard) and Nicholas Chater, a behavioural scientist, author of the book The Mind is Flat. Nicholas doesn’t believe or endorse everything Kelly suggests is true from the anecdotal side, and it’s got some interesting bits.

Try these tidbits:

[People don’t think they are improvising] I’m not making anything up, i’m reporting what’s in my head

words have symbolic value as well as literal value: telling someone they look good could be about trying to calm them as much as it is about the thing they are wearing or what they are doing
