When I first started recruiting for consulting jobs, an interviewer at Bain shared a story (arguably a legend at this point) about how Bain (or it might have been McKinsey) was asked to advise Motorola on whether or not they should enter the mobile phone market. This would be a textbook strategy created by McKinsey, Bain or BCG.

I found your case study videos very useful, as is the one-page framework handout, to prepare me for the interviews. The problem is most laterals, in practice, are less experienced in consulting than the people they will likely be managing. He had nearly 20 years at McKinsey, I had 1 year. So I pointed it out.

McKinsey uses this term for their structural communication methodology. Communication is not only about staying in touch regularly with your colleagues on projects, whether managing them or in a junior role. Active listening and non-verbals are just as important in communication.

As I listen to the LOMS cases, I stop the player at the end of each interviewer answer and record my own response, and then play it back. 2) I have found this to be a good way to internalise the hypothesis -driven methodology in solving cases because it is 'proactive.'.
