Virtual meeting fatigue

We’re all in so many more virtual meetings now than we used to be before Covid-19.

This podcast from Amantha Imber at Inventium offers three ways to avoid virtual meeting fatigue.

The short summary is this

  1. Consider making 30 minutes your standard meeting time
  2. Ask different questions at the top: not just “how are you” but more interesting questions like asking about the unexpected advantage of covid, something you’re proud of recently, something you’re looking forward to (try asking a version of any of the 36 questions for increasing closeness, i think, that would work nicely).
  3. Consider telephone not video for some meetings – Adam Grant’s research at Wharton indicates that by cutting out the visuals we pay more attention to the verbal.
