Here’s to 2022 Raising the Barr Weekly Memo: Issue 467

There’s a pun going around saying that we are heading into the new year 2020-two, meaning, it’s going to be a repeat of 2020 and the start of the pandemic explosion. Although a daunting thought, I am hopeful it will not come true. Even as the world seemed to be coming apart at the seams back in 2020, I believe we have learned a lot since then as we have also made much progress on many fronts. Here are some of the things I have learned and observed:

  • Compassion – While so many suffered and struggled, we were able to share items we had with others who were in need; from grocery items to sanitizer, wipes, masks, toilet paper and towels when we were lucky enough to have found them. But we especially shared our caring and being there for others.
  • Patience – Waiting in long lines at big box, grocery stores and gas stations made me realize my utter powerlessness in these situations and the need to relax and breathe.
  • Humility – When it came to the start of the pandemic illnesses and deaths, we were all on the same playing field. No one was exempt.
  • Gratitude and Love – I was thankful for those who worked the front lines to protect all of us; the doctors and nurses, service men and women, grocery store employees, teachers, day care workers, and health aides who had to put themselves in harms way to safeguard us and our loved ones.

2022 may begin with challenges, but I believe we are better prepared to face them with care and concern for our brothers and sisters. When we hear “Auld Lang Syne,” sung this year, may it remind us the importance of our friends, and our obligations to remember them and care for them so this New Year can be one of health, healing, thriving and joy for us all.

Happy New Year!
