Say Something

Tom Spencer

Often we can be scared to open our mouths and say something. Expressions like “empty vessels make the most noise” and a pervasive social fear of rejection can make it difficult to open up. Why is this the case? Schools, universities and families typically work best when there is an open flow of communication. But on a day to day basis, and in the workplace, it can often seem best to say as little as possible.

One small gem on my phone is an app called genius scan (Apple App Store Link). This is really handy if you need to scan some documents (surprise!). You snap a photo, then show the app the corners of the document, and it automatically straightens it out. Then you can convert to b/w or greyscale if wanted, and also increase contrast automatically. You can scan multiple pages and put them together in a document and send it out as PDF.

In an increasingly digital and remote-first world, it’s important for us to select tools and processes that allow us to mitigate if not eliminate the above problems.
