I applied to nine firms, and I had networked heavily with the four major players here in Germany, which are McKinsey, BCG, Roland Berger Strategy Consultants (which are huge here!), I read Marc Cosentino's Book ( Case in Point ), and I watched your videos (unfortunately, LOMS wasn't available yet). It is a painful experience.

Either your academic credentials or work experiences were not impressive enough (by their standards) or your cover letter didn't stand out enough. The cover letter is very, very, very important. Did I mention the consulting cover letter is very important? So my next question is did you properly prepare?

I contacted the McKinsey Director for Middle East offices (He is the most senior fellow I could find -- my strategy was to start from the top). I had a great cover letter. I had a good enough resume + great cover letter + strong networking. The report was co-authored by a McKinsey partner who is based in the UAE.
