You Have Some ‘Splainin’ to Do, Lucy

You Have Some ‘Splainin’ to Do, Lucy

Early in our marriage my wife and a friend ran a little business creating custom workout and running clothes. They would personalize the clothing with sayings, stitching, baubles, and so forth. They even did sneakers. I didn’t pay much attention.

One day I found her working on a small, transparent cube that she was decorating. It looked quite nice and I asked the purpose of it. “It’s a small piece of art for a vanity or desk,” she told me.

About four hours later, returning from the stores, I found her still working on it. “You’re not done?” I asked.

“Another hour,” she said.

“What do you charge for that?”

“Two dollars.”

“Sit down with me,” I said, “we’re going to have a little business chat.”

(For you I Love Lucy fans, do you remember when Ricky found out Lucy was losing a dollar on every jar of special sauce she sold?)
