Johanna’s 60 Seconds of Writing WIP for May 3, 2024

microphoneMy writing WIP this week is from the speaking book.

(As a side note: I'm using these 60 Seconds posts as a forcing function to write and finish the book. Why? Because like most writers, I have a number of writing projects in progress. I'm using this weekly commitment to myself to write, record, and publish something every week. As a side benefit, you can see how writers progress on a book. A little every day and every week. After a while, you've got a book.)

Enjoy!

The Transcript:

I’m Johanna Rothman, and this is 60 Seconds of Johanna’s Writing WIP for May 3, 2024, where I read an excerpt of just a minute of some writing in progress.

This excerpt is from the speaking book.

Regardless of the presentation type, the time constraints for your session matter just as much as the content does.

All speakers must stay within their time constraints.

Speakers must start on time and, just as importantly, end on time. Sometimes, they must manage the middle of the session, time, too.

Before you finalize your presentation design, check the timing one more time. How much time do you have? Also, does the conference mandate a break or something else in the middle of your presentation?

When you know these requirements, you can plan your presentation in advance. I'll discuss starting your presentation on time in the delivery section.

However, make sure you understand the conference's requirements for any mid-session breaks. If you're delivering a workshop, you might need to make time for a coffee break at a specific time. Make sure you design your session to accommodate those breaks.
