I returned from my almost two weeks of vacation at 1:30 this morning. (Travel. Sigh.) Since I'm jetlagged and not thinking clearly, I thought I'd start a new thread in this blog: newsletter recommendations.
I read a ton of newsletters to learn from the writer's content.
However, because I'm a consultant and use newsletters to market myself, I also learn from the form. What newsletter service does the writer use? And, what do they choose to write?
Here are my two recommendations for October 2022:
- Kareem Abdul Jabar (ht to George Dinwiddie for letting me know about this one!). Kareem tends to write long-form, at least once a week.
- Thorn Coyle's Keep Breathing. Thorn tends to write shorter, once a week.
I happen to like both of these writers, although they have very different styles. That might be what I like about them.
I know you're all busy with your work and you receive way too much email. Yes, and… I still recommend you choose some newsletters and subscribe.
Here's why:
- See how others organize their thoughts for other people's consumption.
- Enjoy the words and ideas—even if you don't agree.
- Gain a new perspective and reconsider your opinions. (For example, I do not share the life experiences of either Kareem or Thorn. That's why I can learn from them.)
If you don't like these newsletters, let me know which newsletters you do like. Thanks.
(I write three newsletters: the Pragmatic Manager, Create an Adaptable Life, and my Fiction newsletter. I don't keep an archive of my fiction newsletter at this time.)
