Improve Your Rankings With New Google Search Algorithm

This article is more than 4 years old.

News Item: Google Rolls Out Improved Search Algorithm

Recently someone told me a joke: If you kill someone the best place to hide the body is on the second page of the search results on Google.

If you want to attract high-paying clients, it pays to improve your Google search rankings. This is timely because in a rare moment of transparency, Google officials have revealed details in October 2019 of its top-secret search algorithm. The tech execs say changes are being rolled out that will surface more accurate and intelligent responses to hundreds of millions of queries each day.

Some of those queries will involve you.

Google briefed the media on its “Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers” (or “Bert” to its friends) as being among the largest improvements to search in half a decade.

You do not need to understand how Google has harnessed mathematical modeling and machine learning for complex searches. This article is not about how to game the algorithm or buy specific key ad words.

Oh, and Google announced the new search algorithim would be used as part of its $136 billion advertising business. Obviously.

What might not be so obvious is the importance of Google to your credibility.

Last month a woman who came to one of my speeches approached me to say that before she decided to come she Googled me. “That’s funny,” I said, “I had a strange sense that I was being Googled.”

Face facts, prospects are Googling you.

For attracting high-paying clients, Google is more important as part of your lead conversion process than your lead generation process. Here’s what I mean. Lead generation is how expert consultants and professionals attract prospects. Lead conversion is how experts convince prospects to hire them, and it is important at this stage to demonstrate credibility.

Here is how to demonstrate credibility by increasing your search rankings: do more activities that get on Google.

My publisher for one of my books said by the date my book launched I should be working to fill five pages of Google with search results about my book and my work. The publisher said people judge you by the amount of Google hits there are. Makes sense that people will judge you by the quantity of hits.

In California I say the universe rewards activity. In the Midwest I say the Lord helps those that help themselves (I am bilingual). To get more Google hits you need to help yourself by doing more things that get posted on Google.

If you are an expert who wants to attract more high-paying clients, do the following to increase your credibility:

1.      Post articles on your LinkedIn page and pay attention to the article topics.

2.      Write a book and make sure it is listed for sale on various bookselling websites.

3.      Create an audio version of your book that sells on Audible.

4.      Get booked to give speeches that get promoted by the sponsors online.

5.      Post how-to videos about your expertise on YouTube.

6.      Distribute tips news releases on Cision PR Newswire.

7.      Become a columnist for a respected news outlet.

8.      Get booked to speak on podcasts that are promoted online.

Just as Google is working to fine tune its search engine, you should be working to improve your search results.
