I don’t know about you, but I happen to be a Marvel movie superhero fanatic.

I’m one of those weird people who has watched all 22 of the Marvel movies over the past 11 years, several of them more than once, including the latest, Endgame.

Big Spolier:

In Endgame, the Avengers figure out how to travel back in time, retrieve the Infinity Stones, and undo the terrible decimation of humanity wreaked by Thanos.

Wouldn’t it be great if we could magically go back into the past and change things? Or better yet, create a magical future?

And despite that being highly unlikely, that’s where we live much of the time.

Look, for a living, I teach self-employed people how to implement various marketing strategies so they can attract more of their ideal clients.

And what are the biggest impediments to learning and implementing what I teach?

It’s being stuck in the past…

“I tried that before and it didn’t work.”

“I could never make that kind of income”

“I won’t be rejected again by putting myself out there.”

Or the future…

“I’m going to triple my number of clients this year.”

“I’ll attract all the clients I need with my intention.”

“I want a $500K income only working part-time.”

Fears about the past and fantasies about the future are like blinders that keep us from seeing things the way they really are.

But dealing with reality can be brutal.

What I love about the Avengers is that it’s the continuing saga of a group of superheroes who succeed in vanquishing evil by dealing with the realities right in front of them.

And the realities are dire – The powers against them are immense and often the very survival of the world or even the universe, is at stake.

Yet they meet these realities with strength, resilience, courage, resourcefulness, sacrifice, and a sense of humor.

And yes, they also have their issues – lots of them in fact. They are far from perfect.

I believe that the real purpose of superhero stories and movies is to inspire us to meet our challenges, deal with reality in the present, and not to let our fears and limitations define us.

This is reality:

Every day we get up and work with our clients to tackle complex problems. We use our superpowers of intelligence, creativity, and communication. We battle our inner demons and external challenges.

And if we stick with it, we often come up victorious. We make a difference.

You can watch the Marvel Movies and escape into a fantasy world, imagining we are superheroes who have the power to do anything – even change the past.

But then we return to our mundane lives and argue for our limitations, stuck in the past and future.

Or we can let these movies remind us that we’re already superheroes right now doing everything possible to make a real difference in the world. And we can play full out with that reality right in front of us.

The question is not how we can do the impossible, but how we can still accomplish amazing things with both our existing abilities and limitations.

How will you use your superpowers to defeat the forces of evil? Like the Avengers, who take responsibility for making it happen, ultimately it’s up to you.

So, SNAP! Take that, Thanos. You are decimated.

Cheers, Robert
