Develop the Stars

Develop the Stars

The mistake most organizations make with their investments is in desperately trying to develop all performers to perform at the top levels. That kind of performance isn’t merely a question of skills development, no matter what human resources latest fad of the month is, but rather one of behaviors and talents such as discipline, accountability, focus, commitment, mental agility, and so forth. The investment to try to help everyone do as well as they can must include the “all stars,” who are too often overlooked because most training is remedial aimed only at below-average performance.

Invest in top performers because their improving by five percent has a far greater impact than poor performers improving by 30 percent.
