Networking for Consulting Internships

Networking. For many people, it’s the most dreaded part of applying for consulting internships (or really just any role inside of a consulting firm). But if you think networking is a sleazy, exaggerated sales job pulled off only by the enterprising and outgoing, then you’re wrong. Consulting is such a competitive industry (and internships are the most competitive roles inside firms), that networking is an absolute must to break in. With thousands of applicants for dozens of positions, how else will firms find out why you’re so great and what sets you apart? Many of you think, “well, that’s what the interview is for.” However, effective networking is what allows you to make it to the interview in the first place. From there, you’re on an even playing field with everyone else.

Jenny Rae (ex-Bain) and Lisa (ex-McKinsey) are now back this week with Part 3 of our new video series, breaking down their top tips for those of you in the midst of networking for consulting internships. Enjoy, and if you’re looking for a detailed, step-by-step guide to the networking process, check out Networking for Consulting, a 38-lesson online video course with phone and email scripts included!
